‘The Sunshine Boys’ at Star Theatre
Several local theater stars are working together in a new production at Star Theatre in Kittery. The Seacoast Repertory Theatre’s Second Stage is presenting Neil Simon’s comedy “The Sunshine Boys” from Aug. 29-Sept. 7. The show is directed by Jamie Bradley and stars G. Matthew Gaskell and Kevin Mahaney. Show times are Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30. For more information, click here.
‘Talismans for Travelers’ at 3S Artspace
The new exhibition opening at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth this weekend features three artists who work with organic shapes and materials to explore the many paths we travel through life and beyond. “Talismans for Travelers” opens with an artist reception on Friday, Aug. 30, from 5-8 p.m. The show includes wood-fired ceramics by Auguste Elder, drawings by Katrine Hildebrandt, and sculpture by Andrea Thompson. ‘The Caldwell Sisters’ at The Players’ Ring
Local playwright Jeffrey Kinghorn concludes his trilogy of plays about siblings with “The Caldwell Sisters,” on stage at The Players’ Ring in Portsmouth Aug. 30-Sept. 15. Following “The Asperger Twins” and “The Meredith Brothers,” Kinghorn’s latest comedy-drama stars his wife Deborah Kinghorn and her friend Raina Ames as two estranged sisters who reunite on Martha’s Vineyard. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Tickets are $18. Learn more here.
Applecrest’s Labor Day Weekend Festival
It’s harvest season, and Applecrest is celebrating over Labor Day Weekend with the launch of its 45th Fall Harvest Festival in Hampton Falls. Among the highlights of the free event are live music, tractor rides, a pie-eating contest, face painting, a beer garden and barbecue, a corn roast, hot cider donuts, and pick-your-own apples, peaches, blueberries, and raspberries. The old-fashioned, family-friendly activities take place Saturday through Monday, Aug. 31-Sept. 2, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, click here.
Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn at PPAF
When husband-and-wife duo Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn performed in Portsmouth in 2015, it drew one of the Prescott Park Arts Festival’s biggest crowds to date. The two banjo virtuosos return to the park to close out this year’s River House Restaurant Concert Series on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. Band mates since joining the Sparrow Quartet in 2005, the pair will play traditional and original songs together.
