Celebrate the start of spring with music, theater, comedy, poetry, and more this weekend.
A pair of concerts at The Dance Hall
The Dance Hall in Kittery hosts two great shows this weekend. Rachel Sumner, winner of the 2021 John Lennon Songwriting Competition in the folk category, plays with her string band Traveling Light on Friday. The Soggy Po’ Boys, who turn 10 this year, perform on Saturday. Both shows are 7:30-8:30 p.m. and cost $15. Learn more here.
‘Stat Geek in Natick’ at 3S Artspace
Bretton Reis’ prize-winning play “Stat Geek in Natick” tells the true story of a sports stats genius and radio persona who battles a vicious eating disorder. Presented by the Firehouse Center for the Arts, it’s on stage at 3S Artspace in Portsmouth on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15. Learn more here.
Three concerts at The Stone Church
Another packed weekend of music at The Stone Church in Newmarket begins with folk-rock band Grain Thief and local duo Green Heron performing on Friday at 8 p.m. ($12). A psychedelic split-bill follows on Saturday at 9 p.m., featuring regional acts Lucid Elephants and The New Motif ($12). The Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki Trio wraps things up on Sunday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with special guests Jim Prendergast and Hanz Araki ($20). Learn more here.
Music, comedy, poetry, and owls at The Word Barn
It will be a lively weekend at The Word Barn in Exeter. On Friday from 8-9:30 p.m., as part of the Diaspora Radio series, Stu Dias leads a band of local musicians in a full live rendition of Radiohead’s classic album “Kid A” ($15 ). On Saturday from 8-9:30 p.m., local comic Josh Day headlines a night of laughs with guests Casey Crawford, Kylie Alexander, Matt Kaye, and host Matt Fanikos ($25). On Sunday from 4-5 p.m., as part of the Silo Series, N.H. Poet Laureate Alexandria Peary and former laureate Alice B Fogel share their work (by donation). Later on Sunday, from 6-7:30 p.m., On the Wing leads an Owl Prowl featuring live birds up close in the meadow ($25). Learn more here.
‘Small Mouth Sounds’ at NHTP
Bess Wohl’s dramedy “Small Mouth Sounds” follows six people who flee city life for a silent woodsy retreat. Awkward humor ensues. New Hampshire Theatre Project’s production in Portsmouth runs March 18 to April 3. Show times are generally Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $26-$30. Learn more here.
