“A Child’s Christmas in Wales” at Garrison Players Arts Center

Garrison Players Arts Center
449 Roberts Road
Rollinsford, NH 03869 US

Celebrate the holiday season with A Child’s Christmas in Wales, a warm and lively play with music adapted from the classic short story by Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas. A Child’s Christmas in Wales will be performed at Garrison Players Art Center, 449 Roberts Road, Rollinsford, NH on December 6 – December 15, Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 4pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

A Child’s Christmas in Wales is set circa 1920s-30s and takes place between Christmas Eve and Christmas night in a small, seaside town in Wales. The play is a “memory play,” capturing the wonder, curiosity, and astute observations of a child, but told with the wry humor and perspective of an adult. Dylan Thomas, considered one of the greatest Welsh poets of all time, wrote the short story in 1950, and it soon became a beloved holiday tradition, appearing first in Harper’s Bazaar and then presented as a radio play.

A Child’s Christmas in Wales, delightful for the whole family, is adapted and directed by Wanda Strukus (South Berwick) and music directed by Carol Davenport (Dover). The show features a wide variety of seasonal songs including Christmas carols, a sea (snow) shanty, and traditional Welsh music, as well as a visit from Mari Lwyd, the “ghost mare” of Welsh Christmas legend.

The play features nine local actor/singers: Michael Doyle (Wells), Tinka Finley (Dover), Erica Helm (Strafford), Patrick (Strafford), Amélie Hendery (Dover), Robert Kilburn (South Berwick), Adalynn Lovins (Rochester), Mia McCrellis (Rochester), and Jordan Raymond (Barrington).

Tickets are $22 for the general public, $15 for youth under 18, and $18 for seniors.
