‘Back and Forth, Above and Below’ at the Kennedy Gallery

Kennedy Gallery and Custom Framing
41 Market St
Portsmouth, NH 03801 US

Please join us for an Opening Reception on Friday, November 1st from 5 to 8 pm, or stop in during the month of November to enjoy a show of Ann Trainor Domingue’s new works.

“Do you love traveling back and forth over bridges? I love being a passenger rather than a driver so I can see the views above and below—tree tops and rooftops, tug boats and tall ships, steeples and towers, and much more. This new body of work reflects on this idea.

The fast-moving Piscataqua River is shared by Portsmouth, New Hampshire and Kittery, Maine along with three distinctive bridges that connect NH and ME.  I have incorporated the design of all three structures into my new painting series titled, ‘Back and Forth, Above and Below.’ The graceful arch of the Piscataqua River Bridge and it’s powerful ironwork frames the harbor with especially beautiful skies and reflections at sunset. The middle bridge known as the Sarah Long Bridge was replaced recently with two-toned vertical stanchions and horizontal ironwork that carries vehicles and an innovative railway crossing to the Navy Shipyard. The third bridge is known as the Memorial Bridge built for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. It is fascinating at any time of day to walk across and experience the wide variety of boat traffic and the ever-screeching seagulls navigating the tidal river.

I have composed paintings that incorporate elements of bridge design while playing with color and line to show the liveliness of daily activity above and below the spans.

Bridges are essential for connecting us to family and friends, small business and recreation, industry and commerce, high tech and military advancements. They also serve as beautiful, distinctive landmarks that serve as signs of home.”  – Ann Trainor Domingue

The new works are on exhibit November 1st – December 1, 2024.
