Flaunt!
In our main gallery we are thrilled to announce our Pride art exhibition, Flaunt! This vibrant celebration will showcase artists who identify as LGBTQ+ or are an ally exploring the concepts of identity, courage, and self-expression. Visitors will be greeted by bold colors, proud moments, and the most authentic expressions of self from local artists. For the second year in a row, the NHAA has partnered with Seacoast Outright to organize an art class specifically for LGBTQIA+ youth. To support the queer youth of the Seacoast, NHAA developed an education program designed to empower teen artists.
Over a four-week period, local youth attended workshops aimed at creating self-portraits that express their true selves. This art class was taught by Elise Morrisette, an NHAA member and experienced art teacher. The finished self portraits from each student will be part of the Flaunt exhibition. Through exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach, NHAA fosters an inclusive community that values diversity and creativity. This project was made possible thanks to generous sponsorship from Piscataqua Savings Bank and the Cambridge Trust Charitable Foundation. Join us on June 7th in celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride, diversity, and creativity at Flaunt!
NHAA Sculptors
In the Round will feature a wide range of materials and styles, from ceramics to contemporary mixed media and found object assemblages. Members of the NHAA were invited to submit 3D works with no particular theme. This resulted in each piece telling its own story, inviting contemplation and interaction. Many artists working in 3D mediums find it challenging to find opportunities that fit their artwork. NHAA aims to bridge this gap by offering a dedicated platform where sculptors can exhibit their creations.
Wildlife From 7 Continents by Kae Mason
This alluring collection of artworks is influenced predominantly by global safaris that she embarks on with her wife. This exhibition captures the vibrant world of wildlife across the globe, showcasing the artist’s deep connection and distinct perspective on the natural world. Mason’s paintings of animals in their natural habitats capture both the vibrant energy of wildlife and its quieter, more intimate moments, bringing these experiences directly to the viewer. Utilizing the medium of oil on canvas and oil on live edge wood, her creations evoke a sense of realism while incorporating an artistic touch with an out-of-focus background. This technique allows the focus of the painting to catch the eye of the viewer. Mason expresses a particular interest in immersing viewers in each composition’s intricate details and expressive power.
Atlas of Memories by Peter Anderson
Atlas of Memories is a collection of mixed media artworks that explore the relationship between place and memory. Inspired by a collection of topographical maps dating back to the 1950s, generously gifted by a friend two decades ago, Anderson embarked on a creative odyssey to bring these archival relics to life. Initially intending to craft a piece for each map, the project evolved into a sprawling series of abstracted memories, transcending the boundaries of New Hampshire’s geography to recall the memory of locations worldwide. Each painting, characterized by a muted palette, exudes a deceptive tranquility upon first glance. A closer look reveals intricate and precise details that intertwine in exciting ways. Anderson’s work invites viewers to engage with maps as an artistic concept, rather than as a practical tool for navigation.
