The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has awarded a $100,000 grant to the town of Exeter to remove the Great Dam. Last March, voters approved a measure to appropriate $1.78 million to remove the dam, which DES labeled as “deficient” nearly a decade ago. Removing the dam will restore approximately 15 miles of the Exeter River to a free-flowing condition and will improve water quality and benefit fish populations, according to DES. — Larry Clow
