Seacoast leads state in job-growth predictions

News

The Seacoast will outpace other New Hampshire regions in job growth over the next seven years, according to a new report from the state’s Employment Security agency.  According to the report, overall job growth in the state is expected to increase by 10.3 percent by 2022, with the Rockingham County area accounting for 14.7 percent of that growth, the highest in the state.

The agency’s report looks at nine regions in the state. In the Rockingham region, which includes Portsmouth and other Seacoast towns, positions in waste management, construction, technology, business and finance, and healthcare are expected to account for much of the job growth by 2022.

Meanwhile, the Strafford region, which includes Dover, Somersworth, Rochester, and other communities, is projected to have a 9.5 percent growth rate, the fifth highest in the state. Jobs in education and related fields account for 15.7 percent of employment in the region, according to the agency, and growth in those fields is expected to outpace other areas in the state. Jobs in technology, social services, and personal care are expected to drive growth in the region, according to the report. The full report is available online at nhes.nh.gov. — Larry Clow
