March begins with art, music, and comedy on the Seacoast. Here are some highlights.
‘Larger Than Life’ at the NH Art Association

Friday night is Art ‘Round Town in Portsmouth, and a highlight of this month’s downtown gallery walk is a new member exhibition at the New Hampshire Art Association. “Larger Than Life” features grand, audacious, and epic works in a variety of mediums. Four concerts at The Word Barn

It’s going to be an especially lively weekend at The Word Barn in Exeter. Grammy-winning American roots artists Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer join forces with Chinese hammer dulcimer player Chao Tian and string virtuoso Jake Blount for From China to Appalachia on Friday from 7-9 p.m. ($25). Beloved songwriter Cheryl Wheeler joins guest Kenny White for two shows on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. ($42). Music and comedy at The Rockingham Ballroom

Watch, cheer, sing, dance, and laugh at The Rockingham Ballroom in Newmarket this weekend. Dueling Pianos take the stage for a high-energy show on Friday from 8-11 p.m. ($25). Laugh Riot presents comedians Ken Rogerson, Steve Scarfo, and Jayson Martin with a musical opener on Saturday from 7:30-11 p.m. ($25). Learn more here.
Randy Rainbow at The Music Hall

Emmy- and Grammy-nominated comedian, producer, actor, singer, writer, satirist, and host Randy Rainbow, known for his musical parodies and political spoofs, is touring the nation with his solo musical comedy concerts. There will be three shows in three nights at The Dance Hall in Kittery. Local band Elroy and some special guests celebrate the music of Bob Dylan on Friday from 7:30-9 p.m. ($17-$22). Roots duo Anya Hinkle & Andrew Finn McGill join opener Tourist Attraction on Saturday from 7:30-9 p.m. ($17-$22). Two shows on the Button Factory Stage

Guitarist Christina Puerto (Kal Marks, Bethlehem Steel) brings her band Mulva to WSCA Radio in Portsmouth for a show with Bella Steele and Kill-Kennie & The Vandal on Friday from 8-10 p.m. ($10). Then, experimental duo Air Space (above) plays a record release show for “Cricket Cipher” on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. ($12). Learn more here.

Grunge, punk, and thrash bands theWorst, Grub Lord, and Psych Ward Disco will share the stage at The Stone Church in Newmarket on Friday at 9 p.m. ($10). Boston-based soul, funk, and R&B band The A-Beez follow on Saturday with three full sets of originals, covers, and funk instrumentals beginning at 8 p.m. ($15). Learn more here.
Chris Zito at McCue’s Comedy Club

Comedian Chris Zito has spent 30 years entertaining audiences, both in person at clubs across the country and via radio shows he’s hosted in Boston and elsewhere. Seacoast Last Waltz Band at The Press Room

The Seacoast Last Waltz Band — an all-star assemblage of local musicians who love The Band — are returning to Portsmouth to recreate one of the greatest concerts ever. Midnight North at 3S Artspace

Some 12 years after forming in the Bay Area, roots-rock band Midnight North continues to spread its sound around the country. They’ll bring their latest album, “Diamonds in the Zodiac,” to 3S Artspace in Portsmouth for a concert featuring local opener The Midnight Wrens on Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20-$25.
